Mental Health Outpatient Treatment California

Mental illness affects everyone differently, so it only makes sense that we offer as many treatment modalities as possible to help people feel better. Diamond House offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for those who want to reintegrate into the world after inpatient or continue taking care of their regular responsibilities while getting mental health care.

What Is Intensive Outpatient Mental Health Treatment?

When some people hear psychiatric care, they think of white rooms and locked wards where they’re forced to participate in unfamiliar treatments. In our experience, this could not be further from the truth. Our mental health care services aim to help people going through challenging circumstances like trauma-induced mental illness and other mental health concerns.

When you have a job, family and other responsibilities, you may not feel like you have the time to commit to a full inpatient treatment experience. That’s why we offer these programs:

  • Intensive Outpatient Program: An IOP gives you the support you need to maintain your life while caring for your mental health. Clients visit our facility for a few hours a day, three to four times a week, for individual and group therapy. During this time, they’ll meet with Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and Master’s-level therapists for treatment. Then, they can return to their life and feel secure in their independence.
  • Partial Hospitalization Program: The PHP is a step above IOP, where you undergo all-day, daily treatment Monday through Friday. Along with the treatment clients receive in an IOP, PHP participants can join group therapy, nutrition programs and more.

These programs allow you to come in for treatment every day or a few days a week and return home in the evenings to maintain your life and responsibilities. Mental health care shouldn’t be a burden, and at Diamond House, we do everything we can to accommodate your schedule so you can get the care you deserve.

Should You Get Outpatient Mental Health Treatment?

As we mentioned, everyone’s mental health journey is different. Before you commit to one of our Northern California mental health treatment options, we should make sure it’s a good fit for you. When you contact us to discuss your care, we’ll request some information about your history to see which treatment level is best suited for you. Some of our most successful outpatient stories come from clients who:

  • Just completed inpatient treatment: The transition from insular inpatient living to being back in the real world with its demands and stresses can be challenging. Outpatient treatment provides a step in between so you can ease back into life with the support of your treatment team and regular meetings to help you navigate your new way of life.
  • Are not quite ready for full inpatient treatment: On the other side, many clients aren’t ready to commit days, weeks or even months to inpatient treatment. They may have concerns about leaving the outside world for so long, or they may simply be unable to due to other commitments. Outpatient treatments give people the best of both worlds. Clients get a bit of experience in what the inpatient model looks like while still having the freedom to leave when they want.
  • Do not need 24/7 supervision: Inpatient treatment services often cater to those who need constant care and supervision to stay safe and healthy, but not everyone needs that high level of monitoring. If you prefer to keep your independence and privacy and we determine you are not a risk to yourself or others, outpatient treatment may be the best option for you.
  • Are committed to healing: Finally, if you’re determined to live a better life, the professionals at Diamond House want to work just as hard to help you get there. As long as you’re willing to do the work to improve your mental state, we’ll offer all the resources available on our campus to help you enrich your life and find beauty in it.

Diamond House’s Therapy Services

At Diamond House, we take a holistic approach to recovery, whether you’re dealing with a mental illness, addiction or both. During your time with us, you can participate in group and individual therapies using a range of modalities, including:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): CBT encourages participants to explore negative thoughts and feelings and find ways to change and overcome that mindset.
  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy: EMDR is particularly effective for treating trauma. During therapy, clients are directed to perform repetitive eye movements that have been proven to help people discuss and recover from past events.
  • Trauma therapy: Trauma therapy can help clients with PTSD discuss and cope with their past while focusing on how they can move forward in the present.
  • Art therapy: Art therapy can be a calming modality that allows participants to relax and express themselves in new ways. For some people, art is a more effective tool than talking about their feelings. It can also be a helpful coping method long after leaving outpatient treatment.
